The Iconic Photographs of Barbara Morgan
  Kick

You may not know her name, but you are bound to recognize her images.  Barbara Morgan (1900-1992) documented the beginnings of contemporary American dance in the 1930s and ‘40s, capturing, as she described it, “the presence of energy.”  Iconic Photographs of Barbara Morgan will be exhibited at Judith Racht Gallery in Harbert, MI opening July 1 through July 30, with a public opening reception from 6-8 pm EST on the 1st.

Morgan worked with legendary choreographers including Jose Limon, Merce Cunningham, and Martha Graham, who said of their work together, “it is rare that even an inspired photographer possesses the demonic eye which can capture the instant of dance and transform it into timeless gesture.  In Barbara Morgan I found that person.”

“Morgan was ahead of her time, experimenting with images, using montage and photo-manipulation to express her creativity, describing herself as a ‘kinetic light-sculptor’,” comments Judith Racht.  “A kinetic light-sculptor, a woman, in the 1930s – how cool is that?!”

Iconic Photographs of Barbara Morgan  runs July 1-30, 2006, with opening reception from 6-8 pm EST on the 1st.
