When your art comes from a place of honesty, your work will tell your story. Then, as the song says, your true colors will shine through.
Inspired by classic literature, painter Timothy Vermeulen incorporates a self portrait into each of his paintings. His series are based on writings of mythic proportion -- think Homer's Odyssey, or the Holy Bible. The expression of the stories on the canvas, seemingly lit by the Dutch sun, will fascinate you.
Adding dimension to the show are the textile sculptures of Elizabeth Lundberg Morisette. Using classic techniques and most un-classic materials, Morisette weaves vessels in the most intriguing way.
And in still more revelatory art, New York-based Anderson Kenny's drawings and tiles express both his Tennessee background and his education as an architect and designer.
Chicago painter Carol Dolan explores the intricacies of color on her canvases. "Luminescent" is the adjective frequently and appropriately applied to Indiana painter Valerie Taglieri's work. Each of these artists focuses on the surface and the depth of the work in creating exquisite paintings.
Sculptor and painter Eleanor Clough, of Michigan, offers a grace and whimsy in her work.
Together, these six artists reveal their true colors in this exhibit. True Colors runs from August 4-26. The artists reception for the show was Saturday, August 4 from 6-8 pm EST.
